Canon 30D Firmware Update 1.0.5 Available

I know quite a few of the readers here are using Canon 30D, so just to let you know there is a new firmware update available.

Version 1.0.5 fixes a bug which mis-reports the number of continuous shots which can be taken and also adds a ’semi-gloss paper’ option for direct printing. This firmware can be installed by simply copying the update file to the Compact Flash card and is available as a self-extracting archive for Windows or Macintosh.

You can find the firmware here.

EOS 30D Firmware Update Ver 1.0.5

Do be warned that you can screw up your camera doing this, so please read the page FULLY before attempting anything.

From the Canon website linked above:

Precautions

A power failure during the firmware writing operation may disable the camera.

That’s terrible and they don’t even tell you what to do if there is a power failure while updating the firmware.

James: I think crying might be a good first step..haha no really if it’s like most firmware updates gone wrong you just take it back to the service center and they will reflash the chip with hardware as if it hangs half way software doesn’t help. It’s the same with most things, network kit, routers, motherboard BIOS update, if you lose power half way you’re screwed and left with an expensive paper weight.
