Street Photography in Singapore outside Funan Digital Mall.

Life Rushes By

Exposure: 1.6s ISO: 320 Aperture: f/22 Focal length: 18mm

View the large version to see the detail in the bottom half as it’s quite dark.

Taken without a tripod and my new D70s resting on the cathedral gate with the lens, body supported by my hand. The technique is called bracing.

When you don’t have a tripod, and you are doing street photography use whatever you can, lean on a tree, rest your camera on a wall or a fence, or even a friends shoulder to steady it.

I had to use max aperture so it was over-exposed, as with no tripod I still had to keep the shutter speed down to 1.6 seconds.

Street photography is about grabbing the scene, capturing the essence of the moment, I’m still trying to master that.

interesting shot. wondering how it would look with a 2nd curtain sync flash to freeze a frame of the pedestrians.

Intensecure: Not really, just pulled the curves a little to lighten up the foreground as it was hard to see the people.

Terenceg: Yah I could easily reach over the fence :D

Lanatir: I tried a concept like that, but it was windy so it didn’t work out, I will try again, I have a strong idea in my head for that :)

Lanatir: Nah man, concept is in my head location can be anywhere!

Jerry: It can take some decent pictures, but sadly camera phones perform very poorly at night due to their tiny little sensors, they tend to be very grainy. I’ll post some pics from my K750i later too as it can take some good pics.

nice angle !!
If only the pedestrian street (the pink color bricks and the grey walk way ?) could be removed, that would be perfect.

ever thinking to take the picture horizontally? it may get better “feel” with your title.

Just my opinion.

Khang: Thanks, my composition and angle was a bit limited as I was leaning on the top of a metal gate. The picture need to be portrait and wide angle already (18mm) to capture the sky and the people moving in the foreground, that would be difficult landscape. I did shoot some landscape, might post one later.

good use of the rule of thirds dood. I never have a good eye on that shit.

well i think u captured that picture beautifully what with the pedestrians and that one car. It doesn’t seem empty, at least.
